Expert knowledge alone does not guarantee a successful career in teaching. That's why we ensure our graduates learn to pass on their knowledge in an easily understandable way. And secondly, why this degree programme is offered in a cooperative format.

Hochschule Mannheim, Department of Electrical Engineering is responsible for teaching the technical content, while the Heidelberg University of Education teaches educational science, psychology and teaching theory. Our students thus receive the optimal expert instruction in all areas of the course.

While the focus during the bachelor's programme is on technical aspects, the master's concentrates on education and teaching theory contents. Most of the lectures are held in Heidelberg.

Your combined qualification in technology and education opens up a whole range of professional options to you.

Teaching profession
If you decide to become a teacher, an 18-month internship follows the successful completion of your master's degree programme. Afterwards, you can teach in technical sixth form colleges, engineering colleges, vocational schools etc. There is a major lack of young talent in all these types of schools, meaning that you have a high chance of finding a job anywhere in Germany.

Engineering profession
One option is to work as an engineer in industry, another is to find a job in training and development in industry.

Course objectives

What does the course involve?
Two subjects are always taken for the teaching in further education course, the first subject is Energy and Automation Technology; the second is System and Information Technology.

Focus on (learning to teach) teaching
In the master's degree programme the focus is on educational science, psychology and specialist teaching theory (approx. 2/3 of the credits). These components are taught by PH Heidelberg.
The advanced technical content is taught at Hochschule Mannheim (approx. 1/3 of the credits).

School internship
Two additional school internship modules (three and five weeks in length) are held during the lecture-free period.

Students from other degree courses
The first school internship module (two weeks) takes place during the bachelor's programme. Graduates from external bachelor's or "Diplom" degree programmes can catch up here with an extended school internship during the second module of the master's degree programme.
