Why NTB - "Sustainable Process Engineering"?

You want to contribute to preserving the world as our basis for life. You want to develop innovative technical solutions and help to operate more sustainably.

We want to combine technology and sustainability and train engineers who will change the world for the better. In the Sustainable Process Engineering degree program, we seek solutions to technical problems while taking into account the ecological, economic, and social impacts of the technical solution.

Get started right away: We provide you with a solid foundation in engineering subjects, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computer science, teach you to understand our constraints, and ensure that your education always has practical relevance. You should be among the 97% of our graduates who find a job or start their own business immediately after completing their studies. Our national and international contacts with industry and, last but not least, our central location in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region help us to achieve this.

Course objectives

In the Sustainable Process Engineering program, you will learn the basics of sustainability and methods for evaluating technical processes in terms of sustainability. You will analyze material cycles and acquire fundamental knowledge about the processes of the manufacturing industry.

You will acquire the necessary skills to develop innovative processes or make existing processes more sustainable. You will learn in small groups. Practical and theoretical work will alternate.

With these fundamentals, you will be well equipped for any further specialization, whether in a master's program or in professional practice.

Sustainable Processes

+   are environmentally sustainable: They provide us with energy, materials, and consumer goods while protecting the environment by replacing environmentally harmful substances with recyclable or bio-based materials, or by generating and storing energy from renewable rather than finite sources.
+   are economically sustainable: They are easy on our wallets because they take into account the entire life cycle of products and systems, including the costs of dismantling, scrapping, recycling, and upcycling.
+   contribute to social justice within and across generations by responsibly considering the consequences for today's world and future generations.
Sustainability is very diverse, and so is the study of Sustainable Process Engineering.

Related courses

The Chemical Technology degree programme CB and the Process Engineering programme VB are the “sisters” of the Sustainable Process Engineering course.

Chemical Technology looks more at the chemical, reaction technical, catalytic and chemical-thermodynamic processes within apparatus and machines of a chemical production plant in the widest sense. The degree course is more oriented towards chemistry.

Process Engineering examines more the mechanic, fluid dynamics and technical-thermodynamic processes within apparatuses and machines of chemical production plants in the widest sense. The course is more designed towards mechanical engineering.
